A Study on the Solid Waste Management in Seoul

Abstract
Statistics and literatures were reviewed to obaitn basic information on the soild waste management during the period from 1964 to 1973 in Seoul metropolitan areas, main data reviewed are frpm statistical year books of Economic Planning Borad, Ministry of Health and Social Affarirs, and Seoul Metropplitan Government, and a few papers of survey. The major findings of theis study are summerized as follows;
1. The rate under collecting area¢¥s population was 87.3% in 1973 with the highest rate of 102.8% in Jongro-gu, and the lowest rate of 61.5% in Dobong-gu
2. Collecting rate by weight was 90.8% with the highest rate of 101.5% in dobong-gu and the lowest of 78.5% in Jongro-gu in 1973.
3. In the year of 1973 the weight of wastes of produced was 2,770,000 tons, and that of a day production was 7,591 tons. One person a day produced 1.38kg in Nowember and the lowest 1.29kg in June.
4. One labor collected average 1.46 tons a day, one truck 20.49 tons and one handcarts, 3.72 tons in 1973.
5. Wastes consisted of Yun-Tan ash (anthracite coal ash) in the range of 77.6% to 86.0% and papers, glass bottles and synthetic matters are less than one percent respactively.
6. All the waste are disposed by the land filling.
7. during the 10 years period the weight of wastes per person per day increased from 0.91kg in 1964 to 1.38kg in Seoul.
